TOAD Tips and Techniques - 1 Day

This one day class illustrates the latest features of TOAD necessary to view, extract, and manipulate data within the Oracle database. This workshop covers all of the features necessary to develop, manipulate, and debug PL/SQL code, develop and tune SQL statements, and discover all of the features of TOAD. This course also covers exactly how to put Oracle data into Excel spreadsheets and take data in Excel spreadsheets and put it back into the Oracle database! Students will learn how to see the data relationships of the application data and how to view this data.

This is a hands-on workshop. Attendees will learn by using TOAD in a test environment. This workshop includes on-line tutorials of topics useful to enable the end user to be more successful when working with the Oracle database.

TOAD Topics covered:

- SQL Editor Tips and Techniques (viewing/changing Data, creating reports, extracting Data, working with SQL, discovering all of the help available, creating SQL with minimal key strokes using templates and auto substitution)
- Schema Browser Tips and Techniques (viewing/changing Data, creating reports, extracting Data, working with scripts, working with spreadsheets, etc)
- Procedure Editor Usage (develop, execute, and debug PL/SQL routines, work with templates to create procedures/functions/triggers)
- SQL Modeler/ER Diagrammer/Master Detail Browser (viewing application data relationships/viewing related Data)
- Tuning with TOAD including explain plans but more in areas of finding problem SQL using TOAD's interface to wait events and TOAD's session interface to SQL as well as using the Oracle Trace Facility (TOAD has a great TKPROF interface!).
- Miscellaneous topics include TOAD configuration and other topics not covered in the other areas such as using the TOAD DBA tools and wizards. This course also covers various methods of creating DDL and data-oriented scripts.
